Social Work

Program Overview

The Social Work program prepares skilled direct-service providers to work in both public and private sectors of social welfare, as well as in advanced practice and leadership roles across community organizations, government agencies, and the voluntary sector. The program combines academic coursework with supervised field practice, allowing students to develop hands-on experience while building a strong foundation in social work theory, ethics, and practice.

The Rutgers academic affiliation varies by partner community college location:

  • Rutgers University–Camden and University College–Camden offer the program at Atlantic Cape Community College.
  • Rutgers University–Newark and University College–Newark offer the program at Brookdale Community College.

The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and prepares graduates for professional certification by the New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners. It also provides a strong academic foundation for those who choose to pursue graduate study in social work, including eligibility for advanced standing in MSW programs.

Transfer requirements vary by location. Review the transfer guidelines for your specific partner community college location for details.
