Liberal Studies

Liberal Studies is a unique program within University College—Mercer that provides students the opportunity for interdisciplinary studies in a small classroom settings. The program offers a broad range of courses in literature, history, philosophy, religion, the social sciences, and the arts. This interdisciplinary major in liberal studies is specifically designed for students who transfer to University College-Mercer with an Associates in Applied Science degree.

Students receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies have a broad range of career possibilities. Employers hire Liberal Studies majors because they possess widely applicable skills that are transferable to the workplace. The most common career fields for Liberal Studies majors are Advertising/ Public Relations, Banking, Communications, Consulting, Education, Government, Human Resources, Law, Library and Information, Science, Marketing, Management, Publishing, and Technical Writing.

Admissions Requirements

Students with an associate’s degree from an accredited community college are eligible to apply to the Liberal Studies program.

Transferring Credits

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey will transfer a maximum of  60 credits or one-half of the total degree credits required for a baccalaureate degree from a NJ county college to a Rutgers degree program for those students who have completed an A.A. or A.S. degree. Please visit the NJ Transfer website at www.njtransfer.org to look up the Recommended Transfer Program (RTP) for any undergraduate major at Rutgers. Students may be awarded up to 90 credits from a 4-year institution.
