Political Science

The Department of Political Science offers a wide range of courses that students have found useful in preparation for careers in law, government service, and public affairs.  The department curriculum is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of politics and government in the United States, foreign countries, and the international system.

A degree in political science provides a solid foundation for careers in law, government service and national security, among others. Courses are equally valuable for career-oriented majors and for students interested in developing a well-rounded liberal arts background.

Potential Career Paths

Students are prepared to work in law or public policy as well as many other political science-related disciplines. Employment opportunities exist for political science majors in a wide variety of areas including government, business, law, politics, social service, and education.

Admissions Requirements

Eligible students should plan to take Introduction to Political Science before applying to Rutgers. Applicants must apply and be accepted to Rutgers-Camden.

Transferring Credits

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey will transfer a maximum of 60 credits or one-half of the total degree credits required for a baccalaureate degree from a NJ county college to a Rutgers degree program for those students who have completed an A.A. or A.S. degree. Please visit the NJ Transfer website at www.njtransfer.org to look up the Recommended Transfer Program (RTP) for any undergraduate major at Rutgers. Students may be awarded up to 90 credits from a 4-year institution.
