RN to BS in Nursing

The Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden offers a RN to BS in Nursing for registered nurses who are seeking the Bachelors of Science in Nursing (RN to BS in Nursing). The RN to BS advanced placement track is designed for students who already hold a registered nurse (RN) license. This program is designed to build upon the existing foundation of nursing knowledge and clinical experience possessed by registered nurses. The BS in Nursing and RN to BS program is highly regarded by health-care providers throughout southern New Jersey and the Delaware Valley. Courses in the RN to BS in Nursing program include online and live classroom sessions.


The RN to BS Express specifically offered at Rutgers at Atlantic Cape and Rutgers at Mercer program is only open to student who hold an RN license and have successfully completed an associates degree in Nursing at a regionally accredited community college. Students complete 90 credits worth of coursework, which includes 33 transfer credits, awarded for successfully passing NCLEX. Students transferring to the RN to BS Express degree will complete 30 credits with Rutgers to earn the BS in Nursing. Students with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing will be eligible to pursue a wide variety of careers in the Healthcare industry.

Admissions Requirements

While there is no minimum GPA needed in order to apply, a 2.8 GPA or higher is recommended to be competitive for admission. This program is only open to students who hold an RN license and have successfully completed an associate's degree in Nursing at a regionally accredited community college. It is strongly recommended to meet with a Rutgers staff member to review required prerequisite courses.

Transferring Credits

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey will transfer a maximum of 60 credits or one-half of the total degree credits required for a baccalaureate degree from a NJ county college to a Rutgers degree program for those students who have completed an A.A. or A.S. degree. Additionally, nursing students will also receive an additional 33 credits for passing their NCLEX meaning that students who pursue our RN to BSN program will receive a total of approximately 93 transfer credits. 

Ready to Apply

We strongly encourage that students meet with one of our advisors prior to transferring to ensure their eligibility. Students who are ready to transfer to one of our 11 undergraduate programs should fill out the Rutgers Undergraduate Application. When filling out the application, students should indicate that they have earned about 60-119 credits. Moreover, students must also be sure to select on the application that they have earned their nursing license. Otherwise, students may not be able to see our programs as a selectable choice.
